Public funding for the Library only provides basic library services. The Patrons of the New Haven Free Public Library, a 501 (c) (3) tax exempt public charity, governed by a Board of Directors, is the fundraising arm of the Library.
The Patrons is dedicated to raising funds from the private sector through individuals, the corporate/business community and foundations to strengthen and promote Library services in the community and neighborhoods by expanding the utilization of the Library by:

The Patrons of the New Haven Free Public Library provides numerous opportunities to make a donation to the Library throughout the year, highlighted by an annual Mardi Gras Gala in February. The Annual Appeal Fund mailing turns to library friends to support community outreach efforts not fully funded by the City’s General Fund budget.
During 2006, the Patrons conducted the Campaign for New Haven’s Library of the 21st Century, successfully raising more than $1 Million for enhancing the book collections, technology access, programs and services at the new Courtland Seymour Wilson Branch Library, the first branch built in New Haven in 40 years, as well as for enhancing city-wide library services.
