What We Do

The Patrons of the New Haven Free Public Library provides numerous opportunities to make a donation to the Library throughout the year, highlighted by an annual Mardi Gras Gala in February.  The Annual Appeal Fund mailing turns to library friends to support community outreach efforts not fully funded by the City’s General Fund budget.

During 2006, the Patrons conducted the Campaign for New Haven’s Library of the 21st Century, successfully raising more than $1 Million for enhancing the book collections, technology access, programs and services at the new  Courtland Seymour Wilson Branch Library, the first branch built in New Haven in 40 years, as well as for enhancing city-wide library services.

We are a non-profit public charity, exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, and also classified as a public charity under sections 509(a)(1) and 170(b)(1)(A)(vi) of the Internal Revenue Code.
